Fort Bend Truth & Times endorses Beverley McGrew Walker for reelection as Fort Bend County District Clerk. Her legal and public-service experience, her familiarity with the demands of the office, and her work to expand public access to court services make her the better choice to continue leading it.
The District Clerk’s Office is a working part of the justice system. It protects and maintains court records, supports Fort Bend’s district courts, coordinates jury service, and serves residents and the legal community. Accuracy, accessibility, and timely service are essential to doing that work well.
Walker is serving her second term. She is a licensed Texas attorney, with degrees from Texas A&M University, the University of Houston, and Texas Southern University. Before becoming District Clerk, she served on Houston City Council and held public-service and education roles. That mix of legal training and experience with public institutions is well suited to an office where administrative decisions affect court users every day.
The office’s 2025 annual report gives a sense of the scale. It reports more than 31,000 passport applications processed during the year and 11 passport fairs held around the county. These figures reflect substantial public demand and an effort to bring services closer to residents. They do not, by themselves, answer every question about service quality, but they show an office working to meet a growing county’s needs.
Walker’s office also introduced an online E-Certify service in June 2026. Residents can preview eligible case documents and obtain certified copies online, while attorneys and parties can access certain unredacted documents through a secure portal. Expanding access while protecting confidential information is a practical improvement for people who need court records.
The office is also responsible for coordinating jury service across the county’s district, county, and justice courts. That work requires organization and communication with thousands of residents. The annual report describes the large number of jurors summoned in 2025, underscoring the importance of making jury information clear and the process manageable for the public.
Fort Bend is growing, and its court system must keep pace. Digital access, careful records management, and responsive service can help residents and attorneys navigate the system. Walker’s experience gives her the opportunity to keep improving those functions while maintaining the accuracy and security the courts require.
An endorsement is not a claim that every process is perfect. The District Clerk should continue publishing clear performance information, responding to residents’ concerns, and ensuring that technology works for people who may not be comfortable using online systems. Public access must include dependable assistance for residents who need in-person or phone support.
The next term should build on the office’s recent service improvements and address the pressures that come with county growth. Walker knows the office, has the qualifications to lead it, and has demonstrated a willingness to modernize public-facing services. Fort Bend voters should return her to the position and expect continued transparency and accountability.
For these reasons, Fort Bend Truth & Times endorses Beverley McGrew Walker for reelection as Fort Bend County District Clerk.
